So the kolaches turned out delicious! This time, I used a metal pan for the fruit kolaches (which turned out doughy on bottom the last time) and a stone pan for the sausage kolaches (which turned out out burned on bottom on the test batch). I also thickened the cherry filling by heating it on the stove and using flour. I did a cream cheese version (sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, egg yolk)--I think that was my favorite sweet kolache.

On the sausage, I did a version with plain sausage and another with sausage, cheese, and jalapeno (the latter was my favorite). I can't wait to make these again. Not only was it nice to share a Czech tradition, but it was nice to have a little bit of Texas.
